There seems to be a widespread belief, perhaps largely subconscious, that thinking about a given issue can be (or should be) adequately accomplished in a very short period of time. Hence, the frequent admonishment to “don’t overthink”. This belief, much more often than not, leads to significantly undesirable results and creates a mess that can take a considerable time to cleanup. I have virtually never regretted the amount of time that I’ve spent thinking about something before acting but have frequently regretted not spending enough time thinking about something before acting.
